chapter 8

Abigail was right if she said he was attractive, but not that teen cutesy boy, he was drop dead gorgeous. She diverted her vision, luke. It seemed as though she mentioned his name, in her mind, and he was there. He wrapped her arms around hade and a sudden emptiness filled her and she felt shallow. Why?

Through her thoughts she was pulled back to the conversation and Abigail was rambling on but she caught onto one thing "o.m.g. Y'all are so cute. I ship it. I ship it!" She squealed and Joinie appeared and whispered something to into her ear an Abigail clasped her mouth giggling "Jake! Its your ship name love!" She smiled an Jade flinched and felt numb, and it didn't get better.

"Umm. Can I sit here." He asked and Abigail nodded in awe of him, and Jade clenched her fist, almost jealous. "Yeah I guess" Luke spoke up holding her tighter and glaring almost. "Ok? And my names Dakota by the way." He added and sat down. It was an awkward silence and he looked over to Jade as she read his, they were pale green on the outside and blue on the inside, he smirked then looked away drumming his fingers on the desk. She shook her head softly and looked back to Abigail and joinie, but Joinie looked concerned. "Jade? You ok, you look pale" she said and reached to touch Jades hand, but instantly she pulled it back and got up. "I think I need fresh air" she lied and left the room while they all watched. Joinie started to follow but like stopped her insisting he's go.

"Jade what's wrong?" He asked putting a hand on her shoulder and she flinched, but he seemed to not catch that. "I'm fine" she said looking down and he put a hand under her chin but she didn't meet his eyes. "I'd hate to ask, but are you having second thoughts?" He asked and she stood feeble and silent, not answering. "Jade?" He began and she finally met his eyes "did you mean it when you said you loved me?" He said flatly with a cold and dull stare. And she had never had a hard time answering something. Her throat was dry as she opened her mouth and tried to struggle out an answer. "Luke, I..." She started and he looked betrayed. "Yes. Or no" he said flatly as though either wouldn't bother him. She stood silent again and he tensed "answer me" he begged and she looked down "Luke, I-I thought I did,but you can't expect to ask me this already I" she tried but he stepped back. "I think in the one with second thoughts, this was a dumb idea anyways" he said bitterly as he walked off and she stood in the hall. Why didn't this hurt as much as she thought it would?

"Jade are you ok? I heard" Joinie asked coming into her room with her. "I don't know, but thought it would hurt if he did what he did." She began shaking her head "but, it was only barly a day, it's not like I meant anything to him." She muttered dully and Joinie stuck with a simple nod.b"give him time he'll come through" she said and Jade froze "I-I don't want him back now." She admitted and Joinie almost had a glint of hidden joy and confusion. "A-ok" she said and got up "it's getting late, I'll talk to him" she trailed and Jade nodded as she left.

Joinie's POV

After leaving the room I headed I his, I was hoping they would split,but took one day, but I was happy to see them together. It hurt being the little sister by like two years. They thought I was a child often. It didn't make t better that I felt like I, unlike Jade, love Luke. He was their for me when I was young but we drifted apart when he liked Jade. I wish it was me.

Knocking on his door I put on a feeble smile and he opened his knuckles are pale and his hands clenched "oh, I thought you were someone else." Jade... "What do you need?" He asked dully and I flinched a bit at his mood but ignored it. "Jade doesn't love you. She's confused on her feelings, she just wants her friend back. But I don't want you to hate her either. Can you look past it, I dot think it was meant to be. Maybe.. There's someone better." I said with a glint of hope flickering. "No." He began and I was taken aback. "Like you said she's confused, heck. I still love her. I always will. I can wait" he stated and it hurt like hell. "O-ok well. Bye." I settled with that an either seconds was gone with him left in the doorway confused.

Closing the door to my room I groaned "she he's everything. It's not fair, I guess since she's a good person most the time,I mean she did hurt him" I wondered out later and ignored my thoughts settling on sleep. No pain tonight.

End of POV

The sun peered through Jades room and she blinked before getting up. A note under her door caught her eye. Expecting it to be from luke, it wasnt.

Hey it's sky' ok, the new student Dakota has been assigned to be in a way, toured through the building or at least get him to class in one piece! I kow how the girls are. Thanks!"

She laughed a bit it was true, he was a girl magnet r would be, but for a moment she was jealous that someone else would get him. Shaking it away she got dressed for the ever so amazing school day.

"Have you seen Dakota?..." Jade trailed off as she caught a glance from Luke and she felt guilty. Would it be the same, and what did Joinie talk to him about? Shrugging it off she continued to find him. He wasn't a shy nor silent type but he seemed to disappear already. She looked barley more till she saw him coming toward her, now that he was sanding he toward a few inches over her, though she was tall to. "Hey she said and he nodded "you coming?" He asked and she cocked her head and chuckled "I've been here before, I was transferred and sent back for, reasons." He said and his eyes veered away and came back, "Skylar insisted you guide me, but you don't have to." He added and Jade nodded "ok well I have training today, what are you doing?" Jade asked and he looked at his sheet "yeah, training too" he began to mumble a bit as they walked to the arena.

She walked in and they were doing a simple combat attempt. This time it was strange animals and creatures spawned in a forest. Her and Dakota were a team, while carry and Joinie where another.

Trecking the forest ground they scanned for the creatures and kept to each other. Trying to keep from mid silence Jade looked over before saying "why'd you have to leave?" She asked and he stopped for a minute and hook his head "can I answer something else." He said softly and looked away for a moment and looked back. She grinned "when were you last here?" she asked "before you switched?" Before e could answer he swung an arm around her waist pulling her back and slashing at a deer like creature who lunged at her "th-thanks" she gasped and the creature sprinted away "I kinda forgot we have predators" she grinned. He nodded and straightened but he didn't let go of her waist, his arm lingered. "I used to be her when I was around twelve and thirteen. When we had flick..." He trailed off and she looked over to him "speaking of which where is he now?" He asked and she flinched at the memory the past following days. "Well, he.." She began an he looked concerned "did he hurt you" he said it fast and she shook her head lying of course he did, emotionally maybe , it's hard to trust now. "Why do you ask?" she replied and his eyes grew cold. And he faces her "he abused me and..." He trailed looking away awkwardly and stepping back looking up to the arenas sky like scenery. "He's my." He stopped again and many scenarios flooded her mind, brother, father, uncle? And he spoke "dad" father. She choked on her breath and studied him, they were similar, they had an alike nose, ears, and jaw, but he had different eyes and head shape.. And lips... "I-I don't know what to say.. Why did he beat you?" She asked but her peripheral vision she saw a furless cat like creature it saw long and slick and measured to the size of a full grown lioness. It had claws that were full and sharp and saber like teeth as it snarled and lunged forward but they easily missed and it circled them slowly snapping it's jaw constantly. "Here try this" Dakota said now back to back with her. He linked his arms with hers and she gasped when she flipped over him and landed it in shock as she balanced the creature came at them and he stood aside her as she dove the blade in its shoulder but it only did little as the creature snapped it's jaw and stepped toward he as she stepped back she suddenly shrunk in fear and it swung out an arm till Dakota appeared in mid air beside her and he took her hand in his and lifted it up as the cat like creature came forward their hands came intact with its forehead and it's eyes shot open and they faded to white slowly and stayed open it's whole oft grew limp as it fell to the ground silently. His hand stayed around hers for a moment before he let go and he seemed shocked with his jaw slightly open.

"So. Skylar was right" he said and she looked over to him "right about what?" She asked and he smiled softly "your like me, there's a few of us, were stronger with different powers, if we learn how to use them well" he said proudly. "I've done this twice now, but I can't guarantee when I'll do it. Or when it happens." She trailed and he looked over smiling "well, me and Skylar are here to train you"

"Jade wait!" Luke called and she stopped and turned "yes?" She said a bit happy to at least talk to him now. "Look I'm sorry how I acted, do I get a second chance?" He seemed to plead and she looked away "I-I, no sorry Luke." It was he'd today but she managed rover it out and he nodded "sorry, I just had the little hope you felt the same. My bad" he wales off leaving her with the hollow feeling again, and Joinie's glare didn't help as she passed.

She saw Dakota slip into his room and she did the same. "goodnight" she whispered.
